Memorial Day Weekend: Taholah and Ocean Shores

This past weekend was the Memorial Day weekend. Memorial Day is a holiday where Americans remember soldiers who died serving the country’s armed forces.

My family decided to go camping. The drive was about 3 hours and we arrived in Taholah, an Indian/Native American reservation near Ocean Shores. For those of you unfamiliar with Indian reservations, it’s an area of land managed by a Indian/Native American tribe under the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs. Taholah is a reservation that is part of the Quinault Indian Nation.

We arrived in Taholah because my dad wanted to go fishing. The best part of Taholah were the dogs. They had a no-leash law, meaning your dogs don’t have to be on leashes. This meant that dogs are free to roam the town and we came across two dogs that really liked us!

We set up a tent while my dad went fishing and the dogs hung out around our tent for the majority of the time we were there. They were really cute together, although I think one of them was limping (the husky). I saw one of them walk distances ahead of the other dog and saw him glance back every minute to make sure his friend was still behind him. I’m glad they weren’t strays!

After Taholah, we headed over to Ocean Shores.

The weather was really chilly but at least the view was really nice! Other than that, the camping trip was pretty unmemorable. I don’t really like going on camping trips with my dad but at least it wasn’t as bad as it could have been!

In other news, I started a new Korean drama called Fight For My Way. I love it so far! I like how none of the characters are stereotypical rich people. I also appreciate the mixture of seriousness and comedy. There are only 4 episodes out so far, so if you’re looking for something to watch – I would recommend this drama!

Follow the story about young adults with third-rate specs just struggling to survive, and the blossoming romance between two immature friends Go Dong-man (Park Seo-joon) and Choi Ae-ra (Kim Ji-won) whose childish dynamic hasn’t changed despite reaching adulthood.

That’s all for today. Thanks for reading!

  • Despite not liking camping trips with your dad, and it not being as memorable, it still sounded like a lovely getaway. I never heard of Taholah, so thank you for introducing that to me. This place sounds like it was truly a doggy land! The dogs you photographed are so cute! I love how they were buddies, and that the one who wasn’t limping would wait for its friend. That’s friendship at its best ^_^ Ocean Shores does look chilly! Brrr! Thank goodness for the good views.

Now I need to work on my Memorial Day weekend trip post XD Reading this reminds me I need to get on it!

  • Oh wow, I didn’t realized you can go camping on certain reservations! The last time I was on a reservation, it was a trip to learn about Native American culture for school. And the no leash allowance sounds lovely, although I personally can’t do it with my dog since she’ll never come back…

Pictures are pretty and so artistic! :3
